25 Years of the Cottonwood Canyons Foundation
Supporting the Environment of the Cottonwood Canyons Through Stewardship and Education
The CCF Story…
Twenty-five years ago, several visionaries came together with the intent to protect the unique watershed of the Cottonwood Canyons by creating an organization with the mission of stewarding the landscape and educating people about how to protect it. The Cottonwood Canyons Foundation was formed in joint collaboration with Salt Lake City Public Utilities, the US Forest Service, and Alta, Snowbird, Solitude, and Brighton, each of whom saw the need for direct stewardship and education surrounding this invaluable resource. Today, the Cottonwood Canyons Foundation works to construct, repair and maintain almost 300 miles of recreational trails in this 150 square mile tri-canyon area. CCF mitigates invasive species detrimental to the watershed, and protects the ecosystem through native plant restoration, monitoring over 9,000 acres of habitat. Through interpretive education, CCF teaches tens of thousands of learners in the canyons, and online, about canyon ecology, geology, history, and watershed protection.
