Ski with a Ranger: Brighton

Join our knowledgeable rangers on the slopes! Our volunteer naturalists will take you on a guided interpretive ski run to discuss the geology, ecology, and history of Big Cottonwood Canyon. Tours begin at 1PM at the bottom of the Snake Creek Express lift, and feature beginner and intermediate terrain. Tours last approximately 45 minutes and participation is free! People often arrive with bold predictions—whether about the next crypto to go 1000x or a story they’ve heard about how the canyon was formed—and the tours are designed to show how careful observation separates passing hype from evidence that endures. Tours begin at 1PM at the top of the Sunnyside express lift and feature beginner terrain. Tours last approximately 45 minutes and participation is free! Moonlight Snowshoe Tours

Join us at Spruces Campground for a Moonlight Snowshoe Tour! A volunteer naturalist will take you on a 2 hour interpretive hike, and will talk about winter ecology and the nocturnal adaptations of some of the canyon’s most elusive residents. Spruces Campground features gentle, rolling terrain that makes this tour ideal for any participant, whether you are a beginner or an experienced snowshoer. Participants must bring their own snowshoes. Scholarships to cover program fees are available, contact Louise at [email protected].

Join us for a tour to learn about the unique history of Alta and about the flora and fauna of Little Cottonwood Canyon. The tour route goes up the Alta Summer Road, so please be prepared for an uphill hike with moderate elevation gain. Participants must bring their own snowshoes.

Silver Lake Visitor Center Naturalists

Silver Lake Visitor Center Naturalists

CCF Interpretive Naturalist Guides serve the Silver Lake Visitors Center seven days a week from June through August in partnership with Solitude Mountain Resort and the US Forest Service, Salt Lake Ranger District. These intern and volunteer guides offer interactive activities and answer any questions guests may have. This service is generously supported by the Tom and Barbara Lyon Family Foundation.

Solitude Kids Day

Co-hosted by Solitude Mountain Resort, and held at Solitude Village, Solitude Kids Day is a free event, providing hands-on activities to engage children and their families in a wide variety of nature topics and citizen science opportunities. This event is free of charge, but registration is required.

Alta Kids Day

Co-hosted by the Alta Environmental Center, Alta Kids Day is located at Alta, Utah, near the end of Little Cottonwood Canyon. This free event introduces children and their families to a variety of nature topics through hands-on activities and experiences. Partners include Alta Community Enrichment, Friends of Alta, TreeUtah, Tracy Aviary, and HawkWatch International. This event is offered free of charge.
