Ski with a Ranger

In partnership with the US Forest Service, the Ski with a Ranger program is based at Alta, Snowbird, Brighton and Solitude resorts.

Participants join Volunteer Naturalist Rangers on the ski slopes
to learn about the Cottonwood Canyons’ geology, history,
winter ecology, watershed, wildlife, and more.

These free, guided tours frequent only easy or intermediate ski runs and last approximately 45 minutes. A lift ticket or pass at the respective ski area is required. Participants must be able to ski beginner and intermediate terrain proficiently.  Tours are offered at 1 pm. No registration is required, just meet us at the respective meeting spot.

  • At Alta Ski Area, please meet at the top of Sunnyside Lift
  • At Solitude Mountain Resort, please meet at the top of Moonbeam Lift
  • At Brighton Resort, please meet at the bottom of Snake Creek Express Lift

Solitude Earth Day Ski with a Ranger

Canyons Camp: 25 Years of Watershed Protection

Join us for an evening discussing the unique history of the Cottonwood Canyons’ watersheds.

 

We will discuss how the canyons played a role in US environmental protection history and the unique responsibility of the Cottonwood Canyons Foundation in furthering that protection.

Learn more about glaciers, Indigenous Peoples, environmental pioneers, and immigrants scratching out an existence in high alpine homesteads where over 40 feet of snow fell each winter.

 

The event starts at 6pm and will take place at Last Chance Lodge, Solitude Mountain Resort.

Canyons’ Kids Day Solitude 2025

Co-hosted by Solitude Mountain Resort, and held at Solitude Village, Canyons’ Kids Day at Solitude is a free event, providing hands-on activities to engage children and their families in a wide variety of nature topics and citizen science opportunities. This event is free of charge, but registration is required.
